Medis Media – 3D Organon VR Anatomy
Medis Media has been recognized for Software Innovation in the World Business Awards 2017 for the research and development of 3D Organon VR Anatomy. The World Business Award for Software Innovation [SWR] recognizes software products and services that provide innovative solutions for new and existing market needs.
It all started when a university professor of anatomy, Dr. Athanasios Raikos, realised that his students were facing the same challenges he once had as a student. Although a digital transformation is changing the world, anatomy education in many institutions still relies on classical teaching approaches. He wanted his students take advantage of digital technologies, learn faster and be engaged in the learning process. He also wanted to demystify the privileged aura surrounding the dissection room where anatomy is taught.
The app’s purpose is to help medical and allied health students grasp the challenging subject of anatomy. 3D Organon VR Anatomy can help doctors educate patients on health-related matters. Also, it gives the opportunity to everyone learn anatomy, irrespectively of having any prior knowledge of health sciences or not. In that sense, it democratises anatomy and brings the amazing world of nature closer to the nonmedical community. With capacity to explore and study more than 4000 realistic anatomical structures and organs, the application is an immersive self-discovery experience into the human body.
Thanks to VR technology and its realistic stereoscopic presentation, students using 3D Organon VR Anatomy can manipulate body structures using touch controllers on their hands and clearly understand their anatomical relations and positions. The 3D anatomy models can add important cognitive input for understanding key anatomical concepts essential for learning clinical, topographic and systems-based anatomy.
3D Organon VR Anatomy is created for curious minds, medical and allied-health students, healthcare professionals, patients, and educators. It is an invaluable educational tool for universities, colleges, schools, and hospitals.
The team behind 3D Organon has spent 3.5 years on the development of its encyclopedic visual and textual database. It created from scratch over 4000 3D models of every organ, bone, muscle, and structure of the human body, accompanied by comprehensive descriptive texts. An additional eight months were spent in developing and testing the 3D Organon VR anatomy app. The main goal of the initiative is ensuring the delivery of an interactive anatomical atlas which offers exceptional learning experience and a five-star standard for medical accuracy.
3D Organon VR Anatomy delivers accurate visual and textual information; immediate response time, and consistent user experience. The app became a success from the day one, generating public buzz and interest from users and educational institutions from all around the world. Although written in English medical nomenclature, the app has users from many non-English speaking countries. It is a spin-off of 3D Organon suite, which has been downloaded well over 100,000 times worldwide across all platforms (since November 2015).
